Modern 8 + Rising Performance Group

BDC believes that dance training should encompass a wide range of movement forms in order to create well-rounded, strong dancers. Starting in Level 2 we require dancers to take both ballet and modern dance. Modern dance teaches a diverse range of movement qualities including falls, floor work, contractions, releases, spirals, and improvisation. Modern dance was developed in the early 20th century by influential American choreographers including Martha Graham, José Limón, Merce Cunningham, and Alvin Ailey. It continues to evolve and often blends with contemporary dance, making it a versatile and expressive art form practiced around the world.
