Introduction to Japanese Rope Bondage With Chicago Rope Staff Want to learn rope but don’t know where to start? This four-class series will give you all of the tools you need to start tying in the Japanese style of rope bondage (aka shibari or kinbaku). Schedule This class will meet once per week for four weeks on Monday evenings from 8-10. The exact dates of this course are April 9, 16, 23, and 30. Please only register if you can commit to attending all four sessions, as the material is cumulative from session to session. Curriculum We’ll cover safety, core techniques and concepts, and exercises to improve your connection and communication in rope. In the process, we’ll show you classic ties that you can not only use for play but that will also help you build the skills to move on to the more advanced material taught in our regular monthly classes. Material will primarily be targeted to those who are learning to tie, however a substantial portion of the class will address issues pertaining to those being tied. Location The venue is our usual class location, Outerspace Studios, conveniently located in the heart of Wicker Park, just steps from the Damen blue line. Parking can be difficult in this neighborhood but often can be found on Milwaukee (paid until 10) or on the streets surrounding the park (free). We recommend that those who are driving allow extra time to find parking. Pricing The cost of this series is $90 per pair. This includes four 2-hour classes along with admission to our monthly rope social for two people. A limited number of reduced price registration slots are available each course. To request reduced cost pricing, please email us. Unlike our monthly events, which you can attend solo, you must register for this series with a partner. As this is an educational series, you do not need to have any romantic or play relationship with your class partner. We ask that you attend the full series with the same partner. In fact, if you have have already learned a significant amount of rope elsewhere, then this course is likely not for you. Required Materials We ask that each pair of participants bring two pieces of 8-10 meter (35-30 foot) lengths of bondage-grade natural-fiber rope. Jute, hemp, and even cotton are acceptable. If you do not have natural-fiber rope, we have a special offer just for students in this course. You can purchase two 8m lengths of fully processed and conditioned premium Ogawa jute for only $15 each, half of the regular price.
