Squat, hinge, push, pull, and carry are the core movements that form the strength and conditioning training at Hammerheart. In addition to these movements, classes will cover the following: Mobility & Flexibility & Warmup: You'll learn the basics of body self care and soft tissue work. In addition to this, you'll come to understand how to stretch and improve elements of your own personal mobility and flexibility. Finally, after preparing your body to perform, you will be taken through a dynamic warmup where your body will move and your heart rate will rise. Core Strength & Stability: Teaching your body how to prevent spinal extension and flexion (when necessary) as well as learning how prevent and create rotation in the torso. Power: How to create it and control it through a variety exercises including medicine balls and appropriate plyometrics (jumping). Strength: Pretty simple. Getting stronger using squatting (on one leg and two), hinging, pushing, pulling, and carrying. Conditioning: If "strength" is dinner, then think of conditioning as dessert. A little goes a long way and you need a lot less of it than you think. With that being said conditioning at Hammerheart is a bit different. We keep the class moving at a pretty good pace, which depending on your level of conditioning, could keep you between a low to moderate heart rate for nearly 40 minutes. Then depending on your age or current activity level we will do conditioning using low impact methods like sled pushing, riding the bike, or using a sideboard. We do little to no running for conditioning.
